The good news for the Canadian men’s hockey team is that they are deep at most positions.
The bad news is that depth is about to be tested at arguably at a crucial point in the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.
Team Canada captain Sidney Corsby left Wednesday’s 4-3 overtime win over Czechia in the second period after taking two brutal hits and ultimately injuring his right leg. Crosby gingerly skated back to the bench and was helped into the locker room.
He couldn’t put weight on his leg, and he went in for an MRI on Thursday to assess the damage.

Crosby’s MRI results haven’t been released yet, but according to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, Crosby is unlikely to play in Canada’s semifinal matchup against Finland on Friday.
“Sounds like Crosby may go for a quick skate tomorrow morning to see where things are at but is unlikely to play against Finland,” Rishaud wrote on X. “If he can’t Suzuki likely to slide into his spot as he did in the 1/4 finals.”
The silver lining for Canada is they are loaded at center with Connor McDavid, Macklin Celebrini, Nathan MacKinnon, Bo Horvat, Seth Jarvis, and Nick Suzuki.

McDavid leads all NHL players in points through the first half of the season (96 in 58 games), while MacKinnon is second (93 in 55 games), Celebrini is fourth (81 in 55 games), and Suzuki is 12th (65 in 57 games).
MacKinnon (40) and McDavid (34) are also first and second, respectively, in goals, while Celebrini is 14th (28).
Should Canada lose its semifinal matchup vs. Finland, it would compete in the bronze medal game on Saturday against the loser of the United States-Slovakia semifinal matchup.
