Chicago police shot a man accused of opening fire at officers after shooting a woman Friday night in Chatham on the South Side, according to police.
Officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a home in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue around 7:50 p.m. for a man armed with a knife and a gun, police said in a media statement.
The man tried to flee and fired shots in the direction of the officers, police said. Two officers returned fire and struck the man multiple times, police said. He was arrested and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
Before the 911 call, the man had allegedly shot a 23-year-old woman, police said. She suffered two gunshot wounds to the arm and was taken to the same hospital in good condition, police said.
The officers were not injured and recovered a gun at the scene, police said. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating the shooting, police said.
