The Indianapolis Colts are facing some serious issues at the quarterback position following a season-ending Achilles tear suffered by starting QB Daniel Jones.
Jones, who was in the midst of a breakout season with the Colts, sustained this crushing injury during Sunday’s Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was replaced by rookie signal caller Riley Leonard, who’s now dealing with a knee injury of his own.
Anthony Richardson is still on injured reserve after the freak eye injury he sustained during warmups in Week 6, and he has no official timeline for return.
On Monday, a shocking report revealed that the Colts had reached out to retired quarterback Philip Rivers. The 44-year-old NFL veteran’s last NFL action came as quarterback for Indianapolis in 2020.
The Colts are moving quickly with their pursuit of Rivers.
The team’s workout with Rivers took place on Monday night and the two sides are now in discussions regarding a possible NFL comeback.
“The Philip Rivers workout with the Colts took place Monday night, per source. Threw the ball well. Will see what’s next,” NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that talks are “ongoing.”
