The woman allegedly sent another person three videos depicting her making sexual contact with her dog, according to authorities.
A Connecticut woman has been charged with sexually assaulting her dog and creating pornography of the alleged assault, according to police.
Kristiina Kennedy, 45, of Meriden, Conn., turned herself in to authorities Wednesday and was processed at the Meriden Police Department. She was issued a May 13 court date at Meriden Superior Court and released after posting a $10,000 surety bond, police said on Facebook.
On April 6, Meriden police and Meriden Animal Control began investigating the sexual abuse of a dog. They obtained a warrant and searched Kennedy’s home the next day, at which time she surrendered the dog to animal control officers, according to police.
Authorities launched the investigation when someone reported that Kennedy had allegedly sent them three pornographic videos which showed her making sexual contact with her dog, a 2-year-old pitbull mix named Swabee. Investigators seized Kennedy’s electronic devices when they searched her home, Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates, a Connecticut-based animal welfare nonprofit, said on Facebook.
When detectives searched Kennedy’s devices, they allegedly found “materials related to creating pornographic images of prohibited sexual contact” with her two cats, Avery and Rowen. Kennedy claimed that the acts depicted in the images and videos were “taken out of context” and that the charges represent a “biased misinterpretation of footage,” according to Desmond’s Army.
“The details of the allegations are disgusting and deeply disturbing,” Desmond’s Army President Zilla Cannamela said on Facebook. “Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates will have a strong presence in the courtroom on both May 1 and May 13 to make sure justice is served for Swabee, Avery, and Rowen.”
Kennedy’s dog was later examined at a vet and found to be uninjured, police said. When detectives and animal control officers became concerned for the safety of her cats, they returned to her home and took them away.
The City of Meriden is petitioning for custody of Kennedy’s cats as the investigation continues, according to police. A hearing on that matter is scheduled for Friday in Meriden Superior Court.
“The Meriden Police Department takes allegations of sexual assault involving animals extremely seriously,” police said on Facebook. “We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and pursuing appropriate charges to ensure accountability and protect animal welfare.”
