(KHON/NEXSTAR) – Attention Costco shoppers, a classic menu item is getting a change.
Before you worry about its beloved $1.50 price tag, we can put you at ease – this change only adds more versatility to your order.
The 1/4-pound all-beef hot dog and soda combo that has remained a staple on food court menus at Costco for more than 40 years has hardly undergone any alteration. But Costco did recently make a change to its food court soda fountains to keep the combo price at $1.50.
But if you don’t want a soda with the combo, a new move by Costco may be for you.
The warehouse giant will now offer water instead of a Coca-Cola soda offering.
A Costco worker at the location in Iwilei, Hawaii, – considered one of the busiest – confirmed to Nexstar’s KHON on Tuesday that the water option became available about a month ago, with other warehouses on Oahu following suit.
In other parts of the U.S., the menu update may already be familiar to you. Users on Reddit have been pointing out the change at their local foot court ordering kiosks over the last year.
“Finally! I usually just ask for no cup or throw it away because I try not to drink soda as much and the water from the dispense tastes weird,” one user commented. “No more having to remember a quarter when I go to Costco.”
They’re referring to the water bottle vending machines that are common in Costcos.
If you’re still concerned about the price of the hot dog and beverage combo rising, you can take ease – CEO Ron Vachris said earlier this year that, as long as he’s in his position, “the hot dog price will not change.”
So rest assured that, at least for now, getting a hot dog and soda at your local Costco will only cost you $1.50 – as long as you’re a member.
