The Cubs continued to add to their bullpen this week, reaching an agreement on a one-year contract with right-handed reliever Jacob Webb, a source confirmed Tuesday.
The deal, when finalized, will include a $1.5 million base salary for 2026 and a $2.5 million club option for 2027, the source confirmed. Incentives for games pitched could raise Webb’s 2026 earnings by up to an additional $500,000.
Webb, 32, owns a career 2.99 ERA over parts of six seasons with four different teams. This past year with the Rangers, he pitched a career-high 66 innings in the majors. Proving he can provide length out of the bullpen, Webb recorded more than three outs in over a third of his appearances.
With a three-pitch arsenal — four-seam fastball, changeup and sweeper – Webb’s ability to induce soft contact put him in the 95th percentile for exit exit velocity (86.8 mph) last season, according to Statcast.
Webb is the fourth reliever the Cubs have signed to a major-league contract this offseason, joining right-hander Phil Maton, and left-handers Hoby Milner and Caleb Thielbar.
