A Pennsylvania dad was moved to tears by his daughter’s request from Target.
Frank, who wanted to keep his last name private, called his seven-year-old daughter from work one afternoon, asking if she wanted anything from the store.
“I was expecting a practical response, like a granola bar, juice or yogurt—something useful,” Frank, 47, told Newsweek.
Instead, she asked for a stuffed toy or a “stuffy.” But his daughter already owns dozens of stuffed animals.
“She sleeps with 10 of them and has to count every single one every night and again if she gets up,” Frank said. If even one goes missing, the bedtime routine unravels.
Frank and his wife Kendra, 41, had already been talking about downsizing the ever‑growing collection.
“[A stuffy] felt frivolous, so I gently said no,” Frank said.
But that resolve didn’t last long. Frank said his change of heart came the moment he walked into Target and saw an oversized stuffed bunny, sitting prominently on an end cap.
“[It] stopped me dead in my tracks,” he said.
Unlike the small Beanie Babies that occasionally make their way home for a few dollars at checkout, this one felt different.
“Big stuffed animals are normally reserved for Christmas or a, God forbid, a broken bone,” Frank explained. “Doing this for no reason at all on a random Thursday felt like a total disruption to the self-controlled voice in my head that directs all my parenting decisions toward maximum efficiency.”
But for a brief moment, the stuffed rabbit represented a reminder that childhood isn’t permanent. Frank realized there would come a time very soon when his daughter would call and ask for something else entirely. Something practical, perhaps. Something that wouldn’t fit in her arms.
“So, what’s one more stuffy?” he thought.
Frank captured his journey on the way back from Target with the bunny stuffy in tow for a reel, which has gone completely viral on Instagram (@civilianhummer).
With over 15 million views and comments, users were in tears over his heartwarming realization.
“I don’t even have kids yet and I’m crying… good man,” one wrote.
“Yup best dad and who cares get her as many as she wants,” another added.
“Didn’t plan on crying today but here I am in tears again! Thanks for supporting and holding on to one more day of girlhood,” a mom said.
Wanting to make the moment special, Frank strapped the bunny into the front passenger seat on the drive home. When he pulled into the driveway, his daughter was already waiting.
“[She saw] that he was strapped in and asked right away, ‘Why is he strapped in?’” Frank said. “I told her same reason we strap you in, to arrive safely.”
She scooped the bunny up, hugged it tightly, thanked her dad repeatedly, and told him she loved him before carrying the new family member inside to “show him the ropes.”
“We brushed his teeth that night before bed because ‘he probably hadn’t brushed them in a long time at Target’ which I died laughing at,” Frank said.
