Going to the vets isn’t always the most fun experience, which is why one rescue dog took matters into her own paws by going on a little adventure to her favorite place instead.
Security footage captured the hilarious moment Missy, a 5-year-old husky mix, showed up at the doors of Spot’s Place Daycare in Regina, Saskatchewan, despite having other plans that day. Missy was due to attend a vet appointment, but that didn’t sound nearly as fun as seeing her besties at day care.
Sierra Davis, Spot’s Place’s client care manager, told Newsweek that Missy has “a very big personality,” so, while her arrival was surprising, it was very on brand. Missy looked delighted as she walked in and greeted everyone at the day care facility, which she normally attends five times a week.
“We were shocked to see her standing at the door, however, also relieved that she made it to us safely,” Davis said. “We later found out she was digging before she came to us, and that’s why she was so dirty. The ground in their yard had shifted, leaving a gap under the gate, so she dug the gap a bit bigger in order to fit through.
“Typically, her dad will bike to and from day care each day, but Missy had a vet appointment on this specific day, which is why she was at home. When dad biked off to go to work without her, she took matters into her own hands,” Davis continued.
Footage of the moment Missy showed up unannounced was shared on the day care’s social media account (@spotsplaceyqr on Instagram) and internet users are obsessed. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 8.8 million views and more than 876,000 likes at the time of writing.
Indeed, the online response has been so overwhelming, the day care even shared footage from the external security cameras of Missy “on a mission” and the all-important clip of her owner arriving shortly after.
During this impromptu visit, Missy was treated to some quality time with her best friend and “her man,” Shaggy the dog. Once she was suitably worn out, Missy enjoyed a nap behind the front desk until her owner could pick her up.
Davis said: “Her mom was at an appointment so asked if Missy could stay and hang out with us until she could come grab her, and, of course, the answer was yes. She came as soon as she was able; it was about two-and-a-half hours after we called, but she knew Missy was safe.
“The owner thanked us for taking care of Missy and apologized that she showed up unannounced. She also explained that before she left the house that morning, they had not one, but two pep talks to let Missy know why she wasn’t at day care as usual, and that she would be back for her very soon.”
Staff at the day care never imagined they would generate so much attention, but Missy’s antics have certainly delighted internet users. The rescue husky’s little escapade has turned her into a bona fide celebrity, as Davis told Newsweek that it is “only fitting” that Missy is the one to go viral, given that she is such a prominent member of Spot’s Place.
“She is such a loved little member of the community, both at home and at day care. Spot’s Place is very community focused, and all our dogs are like family (their owners too), hence why we immediately recognized Missy from outside. We do charity events each month with the dogs to raise money for local dog rescues, and Missy participates in each one,” Davis continued.
In the days since Missy’s adventure went viral, the Instagram post has already amassed over 2,800 comments so far. Needless to say, people were quick to laud her independent and unapologetic nature.
One comment reads: “This is so sweet—I feel like she has zero remorse for her big day out haha.”
Another Instagram user wrote: “So she snuck out to see her boyfriend? Real.”
A third person joked: “There’s not one hair on that body filled with regret!”
