Sameerah Munshi, an advisor on the White House Religious Liberty Commission, has resigned in protest over the war in Iran and the removal of Carrie Prejean Boller from the board.
Announcing her decision, Munshi wrote on X: “I resign in protest of two deeply troubling developments: the official removal of Carrie Prejean Boller for her deeply held beliefs about Palestine and the federal government’s illegal war against Iran, undertaken without clear constitutional or congressional authorization.”
Boller, the former Miss California USA turned social media influencer, was removed from the commission in February after Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who chairs the board, accused her of attempting to “hijack” a hearing on antisemitism.
At the hearing, Boller wore an American and Palestinian flag pin and steered the conversation toward the definition of antisemitism and how it relates to Israel.
At one point, she pressed a witness, the Jewish-American activist Shabbos Kestenbaum, about the ongoing war in Gaza, and said: “Since we’ve mentioned Israel a total of 17 times, are you willing to condemn what Israel has done in Gaza?”
Boller resisted calls to resign in the aftermath of the hearing and was officially ousted this week. “President Trump officially removes me from the Religious Liberty Commission for exercising my Religious Liberty,” she wrote on X on March 12.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
