Dorchester man sentenced on child porn, immigration charges after being caught with 2 14-year-old girls

Prosecutors say the Guatemalan national unlawfully reentered the U.S. and exploited minors before his arrest in 2023.

A Guatemalan citizen living unlawfully in Dorchester was sentenced to 13 years in prison after prosecutors say he reentered the United States illegally and possessed child sexual abuse materials involving minors.

Miguel Gomez-Lopez, 32, was sentenced Thursday on charges of unlawful reentry of a deported alien and possession of child pornography, according to a statement from Massachusetts U.S. District Attorney Leah Foley’s Office.

He will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence and will be subject to deportation proceedings, Foley’s office said.

Gomez-Lopez pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry and two counts of possession of child pornography. A second person involved in the case was also charged and has since been deported, according to Foley’s office.

The case began June 1, 2023, when Boston police conducted a well-being check on a 14-year-old who had been reported to be “drinking with” and “lying with an older man,” according to a sentencing memorandum, which cited facts from an investigation report.

When officers arrived, they reported finding Gomez-Lopez leaving the residence with another 14-year-old who appeared intoxicated. Inside, police located a second girl on a bed, naked from the waist down and “heavily intoxicated,” the memorandum states.

Gomez-Lopez had been informed of the minors’ ages before engaging in sexual activity with one of them and had invited the two to “hang out frequently” at his residence, according to the memorandum. He had also allegedly told the minors he was 25 years old, when he was actually 28 at the time.

Prosecutors said Gomez-Lopez had sexual contact with one of the victims beginning in May 2023 and continuing until his arrest in June 2023. He has remained in custody since.

A search of Gomez-Lopez’s phone uncovered nude photos and videos of one of the minors, according to Foley’s office.

Following his arrest, investigators determined Gomez-Lopez was a citizen of Guatemala who was unlawfully present in the U.S. He had previously been ordered removed in September 2017 and was deported twice, including after a subsequent encounter with U.S. Border Patrol weeks later, Foley’s office said.
