Caitlin Clark made her return to the WNBA court in a preseason matchup against the New York Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
The Indiana Fever notched a 109-91 victory over the Liberty, but Clark struggled in the shooting department through her 17 minutes of action.
Clark scored seven points on 2/10 shooting from the field and 1/5 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.
During her media availability on Monday afternoon, Fever coach Stephanie White explained how the team hopes to get Clark better looks moving forward.
“We just saw it on the film. Teams are going to guard her 94 feet. They’re going to try to take away her touches. They’re going to try to make everything difficult,” White said. “We have to do a good job of finding ways that we can get her high-percentage looks. Where she’s not always having to take and make tough shots.
“That’s getting more comfortable with one another. That’s getting her a little bit more comfortable in off-ball actions and getting the ball moving. Pace isn’t just how fast we run up and down the floor — it’s how quickly the ball is moving side to side, into paint touches and out. The more we get into playing with that pace in the quarter court, and the more we get teams in rotation, I think the higher-percentage looks she’ll end up getting.”
Clark appeared in just 13 games for the Fever in 2025 as she dealt with a variety of injury issues. Through that limited time on the court, she averaged 16.5 points per game on 36.7% shooting from the field and 27.9% from behind the 3-point arc.
Clark and the Fever will face off against the Dallas Wings in their next preseason matchup on Thursday night.
