The NCAA coaching carousel has been a wild one this year, with the Florida Gators landing Jon Sumrall and LSU Tigers adding Lane Kiffin to lead the program into the future.
Both coaches landed with elite powerhouse schools and will be directly competing against each other in the SEC. Already, the two have started waging war on each other on the recruiting trail.
Kiffin was the big prize during the coaching frenzy this offseason. At one point, Florida was aggressively trying to bring him onboard, but bowed out after LSU and Ole Miss became the two finalists to secure his commitment. Sumrall ended up being the consolation prize, which is a big get for the Gators nonetheless.

With that being said, Sumrall picked up a huge win over Kiffin already when it comes to recruiting.
According to a report from Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Florida was able to flip four-star safety Dylan Purter from the Tigers. He had been committed to LSU since back in March, but decided that the Gators would be his new home.
“BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Dylan Purter has Flipped his Commitment from LSU to Florida, he tells me for @Rivals,” Fawcett wrote on X. “The 6’1 182 S had been Committed to the Tigers since March.”
Hailing from Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Alabama, Purter is ranked as the No. 21 overall safety in the 2026 recruiting class. He is also ranked No. 217 in the nation and No. 10 in the state of Alabama.
Sumrall has his work cut out for him. It has been awhile since Florida has been a top-tier national championship contender. He will need to bring in quite a bit of talent and rebuild the program for the Gators to get back to their glory days.

As for LSU, Kiffin will be looking to bring the program its first national championship since Joe Burrow led the Tigers to one back in 2019.
Florida being able to flip a talent like Purter is a big step in the right direction. He will have a chance to be a big cornerstone for the defense in the future. Sumrall is already bringing in wins for the Gators.
