Luke Grimes’ Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, keeps Kayce Dutton close to Tate (Brecken Merrill), Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty), while expanding his world with fresh faces and folks from his past.
Over the first seven episodes, viewers got to know Kayce’s new U.S. Marshals teammates Cal (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle (Arielle Kebbel), Cruz (Ash Santos), and Kittle (Tatanka Means). But in Marshals Episode 8, “Blowback,” we meet an intriguing new character who has some serious history with Kayce and Cal.
Last week, Marshals welcomed The Road winner Adam Sanders to screen to perform his song “His to Mine.” And this week, another Country music star is joining the cast as Garrett.
So who is Garrett on Marshals? And what do we know about Riley Green, the Country star who plays Garrett on Marshals? Here’s everything to know about the new addition to the Marshals cast.
Who Is Garrett on Marshals?
While Marshals fans are meeting Garrett for the first time in Episode 8, the new character has known Kayce and Cal for years. Per CBS, the official synopsis for “Blowback” is as follows, “The Marshals go manhunting after receiving a tip that a dangerous fugitive is on the loose. Kayce and Cal struggle to reckon with their time at war when a former SEAL brother, Garrett, drifts back into their lives as they hunt a vicious enemy.”

We’ll be sure to update this article with additional details on Garrett’s role in Episode 8 after it airs, but we know he uses music as an escape from past trauma, and based on DECIDER’s interview with Logan Marshall-Green earlier this season, we have a feeling that Garrett will be able to shed some additional light on the mysterious “Roner” incident that Kayce brought up in Episode 2. The word rattled Cal at the time, and here’s what Marshall-Green had to say about that.
“I know everything that happened with Roner. In fact, what Cal knows about Roner, Kayce actually doesn’t know. That will cause tension later,” Marshall-Green told DECIDER. “A character from Cal’s and Kayce’s past who comes back into our lives also knew Roner. Everything changes from there. That’s the part of the show that will move away from a linear procedural to much more of a character driven narrative.”

It certainly sounds like Cal and Kayce’s former SEAL teammate Garrett will be the blast from their past that inspires a tense trip down memory lane. And Garrett will be sticking around Montana for a bit, as he’s spotted in first-look photos for Marshals Episode 9, “In Low Places,” as well. It looks like he’ll even be strapping on a U.S. Marshal vest again and stepping in to help Kayce and Cal. So let’s get to know Riley Green, the man who plays Garrett, shall we?
Who Plays Garrett on Marshals? Meet Riley Green
Garrett on Marshals is played by country singer Riley Green, a 37-year-old singer and songwriter from Jacksonville, Alabama. Since Green released his self-titled EP in 2018 he’s put out three albums: Different ‘Round Here (2019), Ain’t My Last Rodeo (2023), and Don’t Mind If I Do (2024). And right before he made his Marshals debut, he released a new song, “My Way,” which we’ll to see him perform on the show. That’s right, folks. Garrett brought his guitar to Montana!
As for Green’s time on-screen, Marshals will mark his acting debut. In an interview with DECIDER, the Marshals guest star said that he was a huge fan of the Sheridan-verse and was inspired to act after watching Tim McGraw’s performance in the Yellowstone spinoff, 1883.
“I watched everything that was out, just like everybody else did. All [Sheridan’s] movies and TV shows have something special sprinkled on them. Seeing how good Tim McGraw was in 1883… that is probably what got me interested in acting. I’ve gotten to know Tim over the years,” Green told DECIDER. “In the past, I had it in my head that acting was something you were not born able to do. You had to go to drama and theater class in high school. You had to be in plays. I didn’t do any of that. I was playing three sports through school and did construction work. When I found out how Tim was able to learn how to act—and certainly learn well—it gave me an idea that maybe it was something I could try. He was one of my favorites on that show.”
In addition to his acting inspiration, Green spoke with DECIDER about playing Garrett, working with his pal Luke Grimes, and what’s to come for his character on the show. So be sure to read the full interview here!
