The New York Giants head into Thursday’s NFL draft with two picks in the top 10 of the first round.
Most expect the team to use on an offensive player and one on defense, but could the Giants use one of those picks to grab a player the division rival Dallas Cowboys are interested in?
ESPN’s Peter Schrager believes they could, and he thinks they’ll grab Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson just two picks ahead of the Cowboys, who pick at No. 12 overall.
“General manager Joe Schoen had dinner with Tyson at the end of last week, and I believe there’s a chance the Giants take him at No. 5,” Schrager argued. “Going fifth might be too rich, considering Tyson’s durability issues (he missed 17 of 51 possible games in college).
“But taking him at the back end of the top 10 with the pick coming back from the Dexter Lawrence II trade is a better value. Tyson could join Malik Nabers, Isaiah Likely and crew to give Jaxson Dart some real options in the pass game.”
Schrager’s prediction comes on the same day ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed the Cowboys could target Tyson given George Pickens is expected to play on the franchise tag next season and not sign a long-term extension.
“The Cowboys are said to really like Jordyn Tyson, so it’s just one more subplot in a draft filled with them entering Thursday night,” Schefter stated on “Get Up” on Wednesday morning.
Tyson is a highly coveted wide receiver.
The two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection had a breakout sophomore season. He recorded 75 catches, 1,101 yards, and 10 touchdowns, and he followed it up with a 61-catch, 711-yard, eight-touchdown season last year.
Pairing Tyson with Malik Nabers would give second-year QB Jaxson Dart one of the best 1-2 WR punches in the NFC.
