In a slip of the tongue by its star actor, the “House of the Dragon” Season 3 release date has finally been made public.
Appearing on UK talk show “This Morning” on Friday, Dec. 12, to promote another project, “House of the Dragon” actor Matt Smith casually revealed when Season 3 of the “Game of Thrones” spinoff is set to air.
“That comes out, I think, in August next year,” said the former “Doctor Who” star, who plays Daemon Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.” This appears to confirm earlier speculation that his fantasy series would release in mid-2026.
Back in September 2025, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max content, said that Season 3 would debut “just outside of [the 2026 Emmy eligibility window]”. That window closes at the end of May, lining up with an August release date.
However, HBO itself has still yet to formally comment on the release date of “House of the Dragon” Season 3. It was more an inadvertent admission by Smith than an official announcement, but few are better placed than him to know when his own show is coming out.
