Bridgerton Season 4 finally tackles Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) sweet, steamy romance with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) and it might be the Netflix hit’s most enchanting chapter yet.
**Spoilers for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1, now streaming on Netflix**
Benedict and Sophie first meet at Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball. Even though Benedict falls hard and fast for his enchanting “Lady in Silver,” he makes the rookie mistake of never getting her name. Sophie bolts from the party just as the masks fall at midnight, leaving behind a delicious mystery for Benedict to spend the rest of the season solving.
The twist, of course, is that Sophie is a lowly ladies maid, pressed into service by her vicious stepmother, Lady Araminta Gun (Katie Leung). She only was able to sneak into the ball because it was a masquerade. When Lady Araminta discovers what Sophie’s done, she immediately dismisses her. This leaves Sophie with no other option than to work for a family with a despicable lecher of a son.
When Sophie and Benedict meet again, he only sees her as a maid who needs saving. She keeps their past meeting a secret, which creates scintillating tension as Benedict finds himself nonetheless drawn to Sophie, despite her status.
Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 ends with Benedict asking Sophie to become his mistress. It’s what society’s rules dictate their romance should be, but is it truly all that Sophie deserves? Meanwhile, we learn that the Bridgertons’ new neighbors in Grosvenor Square are none other than Araminta and her daughters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei).
