Montana State snuffed out visiting Yale’s final possession on Saturday afternoon, holding on for a 21-13 second-round victory in the snow over the unseeded Bulldogs. The Bobcats never trailed, taking the lead late in the first quarter on a short touchdown run by Chris Long. They later got scoring runs of three yards from Julius Davis and 33 yards from Adam Jones to put the game away. Jones finished with 107 yards on 18 carries, while Justin Lamson was an efficient 10-of-16 for 92 yards while running for 56 more on nine attempts. Caden Dowler, Tayden Gray, and Cole Taylor each recorded interceptions in the win.
Stephen F. Austin took the lead for good against visiting No. 10 seed Abilene Christian when Sam Vidlak hit Kylon Harris for a nine-yard touchdown pass with 7:47 remaining on the way to a 41-34 win. The lead changed hands seven times in a back-and-forth affair, with Vidlak finishing 26-of-35 for 357 yards and three scores. Jerrell Wimbley ran for a pair of TDs while Derrick Bohler and Gerard Edimo snagged touchdown passes.
The Bobcats are 4-2 all-time against the Lumberjacks, who last met on Sept. 21, 2013, when Montana State took a 52-38 road win. The Bobcats are in the playoffs for the fourth straight season after losing the national championship game to North Dakota State last year. Stephen F. Austin is in the playoffs for the first time since 2021 and played in the 1989 national championship game, losing to Georgia Southern.
