The Cleveland Browns have a big decision to make at the quarterback position this offseason. Will they head into the 2026 NFL season with Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson as their top two starting options?
Sanders, who began the 2025 NFL season as the No. 3 quarterback behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, ended the year as the team’s starter. He also ended up making the Pro Bowl due to other players being forced to miss the game.
When all was said and done on his rookie season, Sanders completed 56.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while also running for 169 yards and another score. He wasn’t great, but he wasn’t horrible either.
Around the NFL, there is a split opinion about Sanders. Some believe that he has the potential to be a long-term starter for the Browns. Others think that keeping him penciled in as the starter would be a mistake.
Jake Paul, the popular and controversial professional boxer, has weighed in with his thoughts on Sanders.
While speaking to the media after the Gina Carano-Ronda Rousey press conference, Paul revealed that he’s a big fan of Sanders. He believes that Sanders should remain the starting quarterback in Cleveland.
“Oh yeah, shout out to Shedeur. Shout out to the Cleveland Browns,” Paul said. “He really proved himself and started to play amazing and get the hang of it, and get the pace of the NFL speed. It’s a really exciting future with him as the Browns quarterback.”
Meanwhile, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has revealed a potential outlook for the Browns’ quarterback position. It would mean bad news for Sanders.
“There are people out there who believe that Deshaun Watson is gonna be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns on opening day,” Schefter said.
At this point in time, there are more questions than answers about what Cleveland will do at the quarterback position. The Browns might feel comfortable with Sanders and Watson. Or, they could still consider signing, trading, or acquiring one in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Expect to hear more about Sanders’ future in Cleveland as the offseason moves forward. As for Paul, he expects to see the young quarterback remain the Browns’ starter in 2026.
