The Michigan Wolverines found their new head coach in the former of former Utah Utes lead man Kyle Whittingham.
After parting ways in incredibly difficult fashion with Sherrone Moore, a lot of names surfaced as potential options for Michigan. While there were many names to sift through, Whittingham ended up being the final man standing.
When all was said and done, he was hired by the Wolverines and given a lucrative five-year deal worth an average of $8.2 million per season. As for guaranteed money, 75 percent of the deal is guaranteed for Whittingham.

Whittingham was not the popular choice. However, he will bring stability and veteran leadership, which is something that the program could use after the way both Moore and Jim Harbaugh departed Ann Arbor.
Now that Whittingham is finally the head coach, he spoke out with a quick message to Michigan football fans.
In a post on X, the Wolverines shared a video of their new head coach speaking.
“Michigan fans, coach Kyle Whittingham,” he started. “Honored to be here, honored to be the football coach of this great university. Can’t wait to get working with our players, getting to know them and getting Michigan football to where it should be.”
During his tenure with Utah from the 2004 through 2025, Whittingham compiled an impressive 177-88 record. He led the team to bowl games in all but three of those seasons.
Obviously, Whittingham has a great track record of success. Michigan will be hoping that he can continue that success.
On a very positive note for the Wolverines, young quarterback Bryce Underwood has been very clear about his excitement about the hiring of Whittingham.
“I was actually pretty excited. Really excited to see what he does for the University of Michigan,” Underwood said.

To get Michigan back on track quickly, Whittingham has a lot of work ahead of him. He’ll need to get active in the transfer portal and with high school recruiting. Whittingham has more support than he has ever had to get aggressive on both of those areas.
At least for now, the hire seems to be a stable and quality move. Hopefully, time proves that to be correct.
