NCAA Tournament matchup. The game features two of the most polarizing — yet successful — coaches in the sport: Mick Cronin and Dan Hurley.
There may not be two active coaches who show more fire or sideline emotion than Cronin and Hurley. Still, both have proven track records, and Cronin addressed the criticism surrounding their intensity and behavior that hasn’t always sat well with fans.
During his media availability on Saturday, Cronin was asked about the perception of his and Hurley’s sideline demeanor.
“Over the years, it’s no secret that you and Coach Hurley have kind of caught heat from the media about the sideline,” a reporter said.
Cronin responded with a laugh, “What are you talking about? Are you giving me heat? I respect you — you come to the games. At least you’re there. People that aren’t there…”

As the reporter attempted a follow-up, Cronin cut in before expanding further on the criticism.
“It’s ridiculous. Everybody needs to get a life, bro. Get a life, man. Come on, man. Get a life, bro,” he added. “You want to win big? But you think Coach Hurley is not supposed to be intense, but you want to win? Come on, man. We’re not coaching little league, buddy. Everybody doesn’t get an at-bat. Come on, man. They’re paying us a lot of money to win.”
Cronin led UCLA to an impressive first-round win over the No. 10 UCF Knights, while Dan Hurley and the Huskies secured a hard-fought victory over the No. 15 Furman Paladins shortly after.
Sunday’s showdown will serve as one of the nightcaps, with tip-off set for 8:45 p.m. ET in Philadelphia. Cronin holds a 2-0 all-time record against Hurley in head-to-head matchups, both of which came during his time at Cincinnati Bearcats.
