One person was killed and another injured in a shooting at a U.S. Air Force base in New Mexico on Tuesday, military officials said.
Holloman Air Force Base, located near Alamogordo in southern New Mexico, was placed on lockdown around 5:30 p.m. after reports of an active shooter near the base’s convenience store, according to a statement from the 49th Wing.
The injured individual was taken for medical care, the statement said. Base security later confirmed there was no ongoing threat and that the lockdown had been lifted.
“Emergency responders are on scene and the situation is under control,” the statement said.
The base said in a Facebook post that the convenience store would remain closed until further notice.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved or additional information about the shooting.
Covering about 93 square miles, Holloman Air Force Base is home to the 49th Wing, which supports national security missions and includes combat-ready airmen and guardians, according to the base’s website.
