MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – Following a round of strong storms early Wednesday morning, some residents are waking up to damage left behind and without power.
According to the Ameren power outage map, thousands across Missouri and Illinois are currently without power.
As of 7:40 a.m., there are 1,944 Missourians with outages and 6,309 Illinoisans affected. Many of those affected are in the FOX 2 viewing area, but the reported outages stretch all the way up to Peoria, Illinois.
Extreme Weather Specialist and meteorologist Chris Higgins has been in the Woods Basement System Storm Runner Wednesday morning tracking damage done by the storms. In Madison County, Illinois, a roof was completely removed from a home and large trees were snapped at its base near the town of Moro.
Directly nearby the home is what appears to be an old barn that was dismantled. About a half mile southwest from the home, a grain silo was flattened in addition to other downed trees.
It is unknown if there were any injuries at this time.
Higgins is estimating a potential EF-1 tornado may have struck the area, however, a survey crew from the National Weather Service will assess the damage later Wednesday morning and determine the rating.
Rainfall totals across the area ranged from 0.25 to 0.75 inches since about 1:30 a.m.
Wind damage reports were submitted from eastern St. Charles County into Madison County, as well as from northern St. Francois County into Randolph, St. Clair, Mt. Vernon and Marion counties. The St. Louis Regional Airport in East Alton reported a 67 mph wind gust.
