The Kansas City Chiefs fell to a record of 6-7 after losing to the Houston Texans at home on Sunday, while their playoff chances plummeted even further.
According to NFL.com, the Chiefs now have just a 15% shot at making the postseason. That is a difficult statement to believe, even despite the facts behind it, as Kansas City has earned at least a berth in the AFC championship game in each of the last seven seasons — ever since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback in 2018.
Mahomes spoke about his team’s chances to make the playoffs during the postgame press conference, offering hope in the resolve of the locker room.
“We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have, every opportunity we get,” Mahomes said, per CBS Sports.

“We’re not winning games, but that mindset the guys have in this locker room, in the games we’re not winning, you can never question the fight of this team,” Mahomes continued. “Obviously, we’re not executing at the right moments and we’re not making those plays. But at the end of the day you can never question that [fight], and I think you’ll see that these last four weeks.”
The Chiefs’ banged up offensive line allowed the Texans top-ranked NFL defense to hit Mahomes eight times and sack him twice. Mahomes finished the evening 14-of-33 passing for 160 yards and three interceptions.
Kansas City is currently three spots back of the No. 7 seed in the AFC behind the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts. With one game remaining on the Week 14 slate — the Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) vs. the Los Angeles Chargers (8-4) on “Monday Night Football” — the last team into the AFC postseason field is the Texans (8-5).
The Chiefs finish out the campaign at home against the Chargers, on the road vs. the Tennessee Titans, in Kansas City against the Denver Broncos and in the desert vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.
