Philly’s semiquincentennial celebration doesn’t end on the Fourth of July. The following week, Major League Baseball’s All-Star festivities roll into town.
Events will take place in and around Citizen’s Bank Park from Friday, July 10 to Tuesday, July 14, beginning festivities with the HBCU Swingman Classic and finishing with the All-Star Game.
Of course, all of this will come after the peak of the city’s July Fourth celebrations during the nation’s 250th birthday — and after the last FIFA World Cup game in Philly.
The city previously hosted baseball’s midseason showcase during the bicentennial, back when Veterans Stadium was still around, so the scale of the year is not lost on the MLB and the Phillies.
“As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia carries added significance, bringing one of America’s most iconic pastimes to the city where the country’s story began,” said MLB Senior Vice President Jeremiah Yolkut. “With baseball deeply woven into the fabric of American culture, this moment becomes more than a marquee sporting event, it’s a celebration of tradition, unity, and shared experience.”
Ticket and broadcast details for most of the events are still on the way, but here’s what’s on deck for July:
Friday, July 10
- The HBCU Swingman Classic will showcase student-athletes from Division 1 programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, while also highlighting the history and legacy of those programs. Tickets are already available for the game, which is at 7 p.m. and also airing on the MLB Network.
- Two youth baseball and softball tournaments, the All-Star Commissioner’s Cup and the Jennie Finch Classic both begin on Friday at the Philadelphia Phillies Urban Youth Academy in FDR Park. They run until July 13 and finish with championship games at the University of Pennsylvania.
Saturday, July 11
- The Capital One All-Star Village opens at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and will run until July 14.
- The MLB Draft will also be held in the Convention Center’s Grand Hall. The opening rounds begin at 1:30 p.m. and it is free and open to the public, with ticketing info still to come.
Sunday July 12
- The Bank hosts a double-header starting with the All-Stars Futures Game, featuring rising talents in the MiLB, then followed by the MLBx All-Star 3-on-3, a co-ed skills showcase of power hitting and athletic catching that replaces the celebrity softball game.
Monday, July 13
Tuesday, July 14After the red carpet show, it’s the main event: The 96th Midsummer Classic pitting the best of the American League against the best of the National League. The All Star game was last played in Philly in 1996 at Veterans Stadium, which the NL won 6-0. The NL currently holds the bragging rights, having won in Atlanta’s Truist Park after Kyle Schwarber’s clutch hits in a first-ever swing off to decide the game.
