John Ezzell reportedly told a dispatcher he would leave the door to his Plainfield home unlocked for police before killing himself and his wife, Christine. The alleged shooter said his spouse suffered from incurable cancer, according to the Hartford Courant.
Responding officers discovered both 62-year-old victims dead inside the home on Kate Downing Road at around 7 p.m. on Monday. They were found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
The husband and wife were transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and further examination.
Local media reported a significant law enforcement presence at the scene of the apparent murder-suicide. Kate Downing Road was closed between Pratt Road and Spaulding Street, but has since reopened.
The Plainfield Police Department couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. Plainfield is located roughly 150 miles northeast of New York City.
