Running Point Season 2 is out, Running Point Season 3 is in! Did anyone read that like Heidi Klum or just us?
It’s been a mere matter of hours since Netflix so graciously allowed us to hang out with the Gordon siblings in the second season of Mindy Kaling‘s basketball comedy, but we’re already starting to think about a potential third season and what it could entail. Can you blame us? Running Point Season 2 has more loose ends than a ratty old sweater!
Note: This article does contain spoilers about the end of Running Point Season 2 so read at your own risk!
After Season 2 ended with Cam Gordon (Justin Theroux) betraying Isla (Kate Hudson), Ness (Scott MacArthur), Sandy (Drew Tarver), and the entire Waves organization to partner up with Al Fleischman (Ken Marino) and create a whole new basketball team based in Los Angeles, Season 3 is promising to be a rollercoaster ride for the Gordon family. Mind you, he did this after Isla just led the team to a championship. Sounds like someone has a fragile ego…
With all that’s on the line, we need Season 3 stat. But has it been renewed? You’ve got questions and we’ve got answers. Here’s everything you need to know about the future of Running Point, including if there will be a Season 3 and what the cast and crew have said about it…

Has Running Point Been Renewed For Season 3?
Sorry to report that as of Friday, April 24, Running Point has not been renewed by Netflix for a third season. Of course, it’s important to note that this does not mean it isn’t happening, it just means that the renewal hasn’t come yet. Here’s hoping Netflix hops to it!
What Have the Cast and Crew Said About a Running Point Season 3?
The cast and crew of Running Point want a third season and they want it bad! Probably as much as Isla wanted to bring the Waves a championship, but that’s neither here nor there.
Chatting with DECIDER about the bombshell ending of Season 2, series co-creator David Stassen said that they are “about to start the Season 3 writers’ room” and that they have some big plans for the show.
“I think we wanted to set up that Cam, while being tough to take and kind of a jerk to his family, is also really smart, and he’s never going to feel like he’s totally out of cards. So we wanted to give him another card to play at the end of Season 2,” Stassen explained. “And now we’re setting up a new battle of cross-town rivalry, and there’s going to be a battle for the hearts and minds of LA advertisers, you know, players, season ticket holders. Cam is going to be coming for it all.”

Additionally, given that Season 2 featured a slew of cameos from blood relatives like Oliver Hudson and chosen family like Ike Barinholtz — who serves as co-creator with Stassen and Kaling — they are hopeful about bringing in even more people for Season 3. One name on the top of the list? Kaling herself.
“Mindy loves the show and I think she does get a little jealous seeing Oliver, you know, come to set and play with our incredible cast. So we’re about to start Season 3 writers’ room, so we’ll see if there’s something in the cards for Mindy,” Stassen said.

When Could Season 3 of Running Point Premiere?
Given that Season 2 came out just about a year after Season 1 — the first season premiered in February 2025 and Season 2 in April 2026 — we anticipate that Netflix wants to keep things on a tight schedule should they give the green light. And since it sounds like Stassen and the rest of the writers are already musing on the third season, we can hope for early spring 2027 for Running Point Season 3.
The first two seasons of Running Point are now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.
