New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is transparent to a fault.
When Cohen believed that the Mets were on the verge of signing top free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker in the offseason, he posted about it on social media.
After Tucker decided to join the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, Cohen was quick to offer a mega deal to the second-best free agent still on the market, Bo Bichette, and get him in a Mets uniform.
He will talk about the team’s attendance on social media without a second thought. He’ll even chime in during down periods to the chagrin of his fanbase.
And after Tucker and the Dodgers delivered Cohen’s franchise a seventh straight loss on the season, the outspoken owner went to social media in an attempt to see the silver lining in the downpour of negativity.
“Nobody likes to lose but I saw some ‘green shoots tonight,'” Cohen wrote on X. “On offense, Lindor had two hits including a home run. Bichette got a double hitting it to left field as opposed to recently being right field prone. Benge got a solid hit. Soto started his running progression today. Semien hit a shot that might have been a home run on a warmer night. Finally, Nolan McLean pitched an outstanding game going 7 innings. Hang in there fans, we will turn this around!”

While Cohen probably hoped to get positivity in return, a majority of the responses dragged the owner for his input.
“We are going on nearly 40 years without a championship,” retorted a fan to Cohen’s message. “That is the reality, and Mets fans are exhausted from hearing excuses while watching the same results. You had a winning core and it was torn apart, replaced with aging, declining players who are past their prime and not moving the needle. Meanwhile, this team carries one of the highest payrolls in all of baseball, yet the product on the field looks completely disconnected from that investment.”
Cohen hopes that instead of more moral victories, they can grab an actual win on the field Wednesday night in the series closer against the Dodgers, as they’ll need to thwart Shohei Ohtani on the mound to end their losing streak.
