Suspect in 2002 Queens stabbing murder nabbed in South Korea 24 years after attack

Ho Shin, 44, was arrested and extradited from South Korea decades after Dae Hyun Kim, 22,  and Joon Byun, 19, were stabbed in a Flushing apartment.

Byun survived the attack, but Kim died a short time later at Flushing Hospital.

Cops said Shin ran off after the attack and, within a handful of days, fled first to Boston, and then to Washington, D.C. before becoming a fugitive in South Korea.

Shim remained in South Korea for more than two decades before investigators tracked him down.

Another suspect, who was 16 at the time, was arrested several days after Kim’s death. Cops said he was acting in concert with Shin, and served time in prison for homicide. But cops said Shin was the actual attacker.

Everyone involved knew each other, officials said.

The group went out drinking on the night of Jan. 6, 2002, and then went to an apartment along 153rd Street.

There, an argument broke out that quickly escalated and turned violent.

Cops said the victim was stabbed inside the apartment, dragged down the hallway and stabbed again.

Shin was flown back to the U.S. on Thursday. He’s been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

His arraignment in Queens Criminal Court was pending Friday.
