In one of two fires overnight in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the South Side, a 75-year-old woman who was badly burned has died.
The fatal blaze broke out around 10:15 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Bell Avenue, Chicago police said.
The woman was found with burns on her body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.
About three hours later and a mile and a half away, a second, apparently unrelated fire broke out in the 6300 block of South Oakley Avenue leaving four people displaced and a 39-year-old woman seriously injured, officials said.
Both blazes are under investigation.
