Students, faculty and staff at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul were told to shelter in place in their buildings Monday afternoon following reports of an armed man on campus.
The shelter-in-place order was issued from the university’s public safety office just before 12:30 p.m. St. Paul police were called in and officers could be seen on campus running with assault rifles in hand.
The order was lifted about an hour later.
“SHELTER IN PLACE — BOTH campuses,” the text alert issued at 12:27 p.m. said. “Report of possible man with firearm. Remain inside your building. More information to follow.”
Students, faculty and staff locked classroom doors and remained inside buildings during the situation.
