Whitney Young High School principal shot at while driving in Washington Heights

The principal of Whitney Young High School, Rickey Harris, was shot at Friday night while driving in Washington Heights on the South Side.

Around 10:15 p.m. Friday, the 53-year-old was driving south in the 1300 block of West 95th Street when gunfire struck his vehicle and caused damage, Chicago police said.

“While driving, I’m shaking, realizing these were gunshots, multiple gunshots,” Harris told ABC. “If anyone’s looking for a sign to believe in God, here I am. Here I am.”

Harris wasn’t present at the high school Tuesday, school officials said.

Area detectives were investigating the incident.
