Police responded to a home in Lexington on Saturday after a resident reported that their son had injured himself with a knife, the DA said previously.

Prosecutors identified a man shot and killed by police in Lexington over the weekend after he allegedly approached officers with a knife.

Colin Barthelemy, 26, of Lexington was shot by police on Saturday, the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a press release Tuesday evening.

Police responded to a home on Lexington’s Mason Street Saturday afternoon after a resident reported that their son had injured himself with a knife, the DA said previously.

“Shortly after police arrived on scene that man exited the home in possession of a large kitchen knife and advanced on officers. Less lethal force was used and was not effective,” Ryan’s office said on Saturday.

A Wilmington police officer, who responded as they were working in the area during Lexington’s Patriots’ Day events, fatally shot Barthelemy, prosecutors said.

The DA’s office and State Police are still investigating the shooting, Ryan’s office said Tuesday.
