Seven Providence College students overdosed at an off-campus party Friday, sparking a police investigation.
Three people are facing drug and firearm charges after seven Providence College students overdosed at an off-campus party late Friday night.
Responding to a report of multiple unresponsive individuals at 44 Liege St., Providence emergency personnel found four people on the front lawn and three more being carried outside the house. First responders treated the students with Narcan and transported them to nearby hospitals, where they were deemed “conscious and alert,” the Providence Police Department said.
On Saturday, detectives identified a suspect believed to have supplied narcotics to one of the students who overdosed, Providence police said. Authorities obtained a search warrant for a home at 26 Hawkins St. and allegedly found two assault-style rifles, about 20 grams of fentanyl, approximately $1,700, and three handguns — one of which is believed to be an untraceable ghost gun.
Police ultimately arrested Angel Williams, 33; Patrick Patterson, 32; and Kimsheree Simoneau, 33.
“This investigation reflects the department’s continued commitment to combating the deadly flow of fentanyl and illegal firearms into our community,” said Col. Oscar L. Perez, the city’s chief of police. “The coordinated efforts of our Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau ensured that dangerous weapons and narcotics were removed from the streets of Providence.”
Williams and Patterson are both facing multiple charges, including illegally owning a firearm and possessing cocaine and fentanyl with intent to deliver. Simoneau is charged with possessing a ghost gun or 3D-printed firearm.
It was not immediately clear whether the trio had attorneys who could comment on their behalf. According to online court records, Williams and Patterson were each held without bail, while Simoneau posted a $10,000 property bond. All three are due back in court March 9.
A Providence College spokesperson said the school is aware of the incident on Liege Street and that all seven students who overdosed are now “OK.”
“We want to thank the City of Providence first responders on scene, as well college public safety officials, who administered lifesaving care to our students,” said Steve Maurano, associate vice president of public affairs, community, and government relations. “We are gathering information at this time and will be conducting a thorough investigation in the days ahead.”
