More than a year after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Davie, police said they arrested the driver.
Gregorio Puentes Fuentes was arrested this week in connection with the deadly crash that killed 32-year-old Nicole Bobb, Davie Police said.
Nicole Bobb’s mom, Elizabeth, said when the family got the news, they went through many emotions.
“Happy, sad, it’s like I want to tell Nicole, that was my first thought, I want her to know they found the person, and I think she knows, I think she knows,” Elizabeth Bobb said. “We’re happy that justice is going to be served.”
On Oct. 4, 2024, investigators said Nicole Bobb was crossing South Flamingo Road when Fuentes hit her and didn’t stop.
Fuentes drove his damaged car home, went inside, came back out and got in another car, the arrest report said. Fuentes then drove back to South Flamingo Road while police were there investigating, but he never got out and never said anything.
“Had this person hit her and stopped, the whole thing would be entirely different,” the mother said. “He has children of his own. How would he have felt if that was his son?”
Investigators said they used cellphone data and surveillance to identify Fuentes as the driver.
“I would note that when he was arrested by law enforcement yesterday, the defendant made a statement to his wife that there’s no sense in living anymore and he’ll never see them again,” the court read Friday.
Nicole Bob’s family said she had a heart of gold, and was loving, caring and loved animals.
“She was very compassionate; she always wanted to help the underdog,” her mother said.
All the family has now are memories, pictures and some of her things that she had on her when she died, including her phone, sunglasses and jewelry.
“The message to all drivers, stay at the scene, it’ll be much better for you,” her mother said.
Fuentes bonded out of jail on Friday.
