A convicted felon accused of an attempted armed robbery at a Walgreens in Riviera Beach was arrested on Sunday, authorities said.
Christopher Lane, 48, was charged with committing robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
According to Riviera Beach Police, officers arrived at the Walgreens after receiving a call that a customer was inside the store and yelling that he had a gun.
An arrest report said that officers spotted Lane outside the building and held him at gunpoint. He was then taken into custody.
When officers spoke to a pharmacy technician, she told them that Lane arrived and wanted to pick up a prescription for his mother, the report said.
The technician said that Lane couldn’t provide information about his mother, such as her birthday, and Lane gave her a note, but when she read it out loud, he told her to stop, and shouted that everybody didn’t need to know his business, the report said.
She continued to read the note, the report said, and Lane put a gun on the counter and moved it onto the keyboard in front of the technician. The technician then wrote on the note the name Lane provided for his mother and told him she was going to speak to a pharmacist about what he wanted.
As the technician spoke to the pharmacist, she said she heard Lane making a threat that “she has 30 seconds, she has a family to go home to,” the report said.
The technician told the pharmacist that Lane had a handgun and was fearful, and the pharmacist pressed a panic alarm to alert authorities, the report said.
Detectives were able to retrieve the note, which said “I need all the Percocet’s in Oxycodone you have now, you have 32.1 seconds to comply or else I blow the closest persons head off. Don’t be a hero I was diagnosed whit the aids virus I have nothing to live for but am sure you do,” the report said,
Surveillance video at the Walgreens, the report said, showed Lane handing the technician a piece of paper and then grabbing something from his pocket. Lane then put what appeared to be a gun on the counter.
The report said that a black handgun, a tablet, car keys and a black sweater were found where Lane was walking from the business.
Records showed that Lane was previously convicted in November 2004.
