A man and woman are facing charges in connection with the theft of packages from a luxury Miami condo building, authorities said.
The alleged theft happened at the Quantum on the Bay at 1900 N. Bayshore Drive in Edgewater.
According to an arrest report, several condo residents had reported that packages were missing between Feb. 16 and Feb. 23.
Surveillance video from Feb. 16 showed a white Ford pickup truck entering the condo’s rear loading dock area before a man and woman got out.
The man, later identified as 50-year-old Jose Luis Perez, was seen opening the rear access door of the building and taking an Amazon delivery bag containing packages while the woman removed delivered boxes, the report said.
The two fled in the truck but that same day, Feb. 16, a woman in a white Ford pickup was arrested in West Miami for driving without a license, the report said.
The truck matched the one in the surveillance footage from the condo and Perez was the truck’s passenger, the report said.
A West Miami officer later identified Perez in the surveillance footage from the condo, the report said.
The driver of the truck, 35-year-old Vanessa Caridad Rodriguez, was still wearing the clothing of the condo theft suspect seen in the surveillance footage, the report said.
Perez was taken into custody on Monday and admitted to the theft while speaking with a detective, the report said.
He was arrested and when he was taken to jail, he had a clear baggie with suspected cocaine in his pants pocket, the report said.
Perez faces charges including burglary of an unoccupied structure, petit theft and introduction or possession of a controlled substance in jail.
Rodriguez faces grand theft of a vehicle, driving with a suspended license, burglary of an unoccupied structure, petit theft and other charges, jail records showed.
“What these subjects engaged in was completely unacceptable, the packages do not belong to you, you have no right entering into a building or a residence to steal packages,” Miami Police spokesperson Kiara Delva said Tuesday. “They’re now facing those consequences for their actions.”
