Prepare for more snow, Chicago, with a brief temperature warm-up followed by “another shot” of Arctic Air coming as an “active” start to December continues.
The forecast comes after several inches of snow fell Sunday across the Chicago area. That light snow added to the already mountains of snow pushed up from plows across the city and suburbs.
According to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack, Monday was expected to be cold and dry, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 20s and partly sunny skies.
Some flurries could develop overnight, Sack said, “but it’s not going to be a shoveling event.”
By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will warm into the mid-to-upper 30s, with gusty rain showers changing over to snow Wednesday.
Thursday, temperatures plummet back into the 20s and fall from there, with more snow dusting chances in the evening.
Friday, more snow arrives, Sack said.
“We could get a couple inches out of it,” Sack said, with some areas seeing between two and four inches.
Over the weekend, below average temperatures were expected, with highs dropping toward the single digits, the National Weather Service said, and below-zero wind chills possible.
Snow chances continue Saturday, with a high of just 10 degrees, Sack said.
The multiple chances for snow throughout the week and weekend could lead to as much as five inches of snow by Sunday, forecast models showed, with even higher amounts possible to the southeast and in northwest Indiana.
