Woman dies after falling over balcony aboard Carnival Firenze

A passenger aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship died Monday morning after falling over the balcony of her room, the company confirmed.

The Carnival Firenze was near Catalina Island when the passenger went over the balcony of her stateroom and landed on a deck below, according to the cruise line. The woman was traveling with her family, who alerted the crew of her fall.

“All appropriate authorities have been alerted,” a statement from a spokesperson for the company said. “As is customary, law enforcement will board the ship today on Catalina Island to conduct the required investigation.”

It’s unclear what caused the woman to fall.

“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one,” the statement continued.

The company did not release the name of the deceased.
