A national champion is making her way to the Windy City, as UCLA guard Gabriela Jaquez was selected by the Chicago Sky in the WNBA Draft.
The Sky held the No. 5 overall pick in Monday’s draft, and they selected Jaquez, a shooting guard who helped the Bruins to a national title earlier this month.
Jaquez was one of a record-six players out of UCLA to be selected in the WNBA Draft. She was the second of a run of three straight Bruins players taken in the first round, with center Lauren Betts drafted by the Washington Mystics at No. 4 and point guard Kiki Rice going to the Toronto Tempo at No. 6.
UConn’s Azzi Fudd was the first overall pick by the Dallas Wings, followed by TCU’s Olivia Miles going to the Minnesota Lynx and Spain’s Awa Fam Thiam being drafted by the Seattle Storm.
Jaquez appeared in 38 games for the Bruins, averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in those contests. She also averaged 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting nearly 40% from three-point range, giving the Sky another sharp-shooter on a new-look offense.
With their second round selection, the Sky picked Ole Miss forward Latasha Lattimore.
The 6-foot-4 forward appeared in 36 games for the Rebels, averaging 10.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
The Sky will have a dramatically different roster heading into the 2026 season after trading away Angel Reese in recent weeks.
The team was also very active in free agency, signing Skylar Diggins and acquiring Rickea Jackson in a trade with the Los Angeles Sparks. They also re-signed guard Courtney Vandersloot to bolster their backcourt depth.
