Police in suburban Naperville were investigating after shots were fired in the city’s busy downtown area Friday night, with several juveniles briefly detained for questioning in connection with the incident as an investigation continues.
About 7:55 p.m., officers on patrol in Naperville’s downtown area heard gunshots coming from an alley near the 0-100 block of East Chicago Avenue. As officers responded to the area, they saw juveniles fleeing the scene, police said.
A search was conducted, police said, with officers finding evidence of gunfire and witnesses reported hearing shots. No victims were identified, no property damage was reported and no firearms were recovered.
Several juveniles were detained in connection with the incident but were later released, police said.
