A suspect is in custody after a shooting inside a Chicago hospital left two police officers injured on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Around 10:45 a.m., two Chicago police officers were shot at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, located at 5140 N. California Ave. in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. One officer is in critical condition, authorities said.
The suspect was taken into custody around noon after a manhunt, authorities said.
“Two Chicago Police Officers are reported to have been shot by a suspect at Swedish Covenant Hospital located at 5145 N California. This occurred around 1045am. Note: The suspect is still at large. Please pray for our police officers,” Chicago Alderman Jim Gardiner said in a post on social media.
Authorities swarmed the hospital and nearby area amid the manhunt that also prompted Alderman Andre Vasquez to ask residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place.
Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital was placed on a lockdown after the incident.
Police blocked the streets surrounding the hospital as authorities investigated.
Videos posted to social media showed a heavy police presence near the hospital and around Ravenswood.
No additional information was immediately available.
