A train fatally struck a pedestrian Wednesday near San Elijo State Beach in the Cardiff area of Encinitas, authorities reported.
The rail fatality took place at about 1 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Chesterfield Drive and South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim died at the scene, Lt. Joe Barry said.
Further details, including the pedestrian’s identity, remained unavailable as of late afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., the North County Traffic District issued an alert on X that police activity was impacting service for their Coaster rail. Affected riders could activate travel vouchers here, according to NCTD.
