On Friday, Feb.6, 2026, officers initially responded to a report of a dog on the loose at the 300 block of Rosemont Place, police said. But when they arrived, they were told that the dog was now being attacked by two pit bulls nearby.
According to the police, the officers had the dog attacked taken to an animal hospital, where it is expected to survive.
A video of the attack was shared on social media and also forwarded to the Atlantic City Police Department, police said.
As police investigated the attack, a deceased dog was reported at the 1500 block of Baltic Avenue, police said.
An investigation into the deceased dog found that the owner, 22-year-old Aarin Burdine-Moody, had left the dead dog and the dog that was attacked outside in the cold since Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, police said.
Burdine-Moody faces three counts of animal cruelty and related charges, police said. He remains wanted and is being sought by police.
The owner of the two pit bulls, 56-year-old Clarance Gilliard, was charged with four counts of animal cruelty and related charges because he stood by as his pit bulls attacked the other dog, police said.
Gilliard was taken into custody on Tuesday, Feb.10, 2026, police said.
