A Delaware man has been arrested and charged after police said he crashed a vehicle into a home and threatened to shoot people while intoxicated.
According to New Castle County Police, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, around 1:37 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Bunche Boulevard for a report of a vehicle crash involving a residence.
When officers arrived on scene, police said they found an unoccupied silver Dodge Charger that had struck a residence and a parked vehicle.
An investigation revealed that after the crash into the residence, police said the driver, 34-year-old Shayron Barksdale of Middletown, was approached by concerned citizens who attempted to check on his well-being. At that time, Barksdale produced a handgun and threatened to shoot them before fleeing the scene.
Due to the circumstances of the incident, police said Officers Currinder and his partner, K9 Indy, responded to assist with a search of the area. During the search, K9 Indy located a loaded handgun in the backyard of a residence in the 400 block of Carver Drive, in the area where Barksdale was last seen fleeing.
Police reported that officers eventually located Barksdale and arrested him on the 400 block of Carver Drive. After the arrest, police observed that Barksdale showed multiple signs of intoxication.
According to police, further investigation determined that the force of the crash caused bricks from the residence to dislodge and strike a sleeping person inside the home. They had minor injuries.
Bricks also narrowly missed a crib that had a sleeping baby, police shared.
Police said Barksdale was taken into custody, where he faces numerous charges, including reckless endangering, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, second-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, and more.
