A Twitch streamer was hospitalized after being hit by a car while walking along an Indiana highway as part of his cross-country journey to raise money for his new university.
Isaiah Thomas, known online as “HMBL Zay,” had undertaken a 3,000-mile faith walk from Philadelphia to California.
His goal is to raise $200,000 to establish HMBL University, which will offer a trade-based programs designed for high school graduates who may not have the resources or desire to attend college, according to his Instagram and GoFundMe page.
Thomas, had kicked off his journey back in March and livestreamed each day on Twitch.
However, on Tuesday, April 28, his journey had to take a pause after he was hit by a car; the entire incident was caught on his livestream.
Thomas explained that one vehicle had offered to trail him while he was walking in Indiana and watch for oncoming traffic. However, another vehicle crashed into that vehicle, which then bumped into him, his personal belongings and sent him flying.
Thomas was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries.
After the incident, Thomas, from his hospital bed, explained that he is not giving up on his faith walk and will continue his journey to “finish this marathon” when he can.
It is unclear at this time, when Thomas will be medically cleared to continue on his journey.
As of Wednesday, April 29, Thomas’ GoFundMe page “Faith Walk Across America for Underserved Kids” has raised $45,000 out of the $200,000 goal.
