Man shot and killed in Reading on Monday evening, police say

A man was shot and killed near an elementary school in Reading on Monday evening, police said.

The shooting occurred at the 1000 block of Muhlenberg Street at around 6:57 p.m., police said.

When officers arrived, they found the unidentified man with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. According to police, he was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

A suspect was taken into custody near the scene and police said they believe this is an isolated incident.

Police activity was at the same intersection as the Amanda E. Stout Elementary School, but the police made no mention of any impacts to the school or its students or staff.
