An Amtrak train carrying more than 100 passengers derailed in Northfield Tuesday afternoon, though no injuries were reported, Amtrak said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the engine and the wheels of one passenger car derailed near Brattleboro, Vermont, while traveling at a low speed, Amtrak said in a statement. All 113 passengers and crew members were unharmed.

Despite the derailment, all rail equipment remained upright, and the train retained power and heat throughout the incident, according to the statement.

“The train has full power to provide heat and electricity to keep customers comfortable and safe,” Amtrak said.

Amtrak arranged bus transportation for passengers traveling south to Springfield and for those heading north from Springfield to St. Albans, Vermont, according to the statement.

Northfield Fire Chief Floyd Dunnell told Western Mass News that the derailment likely occurred at an icy rail switch connecting the Central Vermont Railway to the New England Railway.
