Boston’s snow emergency and parking ban will be lifted Monday night while schools in the city will be closed Tuesday, officials announced, as residents continue to dig out from more than a foot and a half of snow.

The Boston parking bans will be lifted at 8 p.m Monday, while Boston Public Schools will remain closed an extra day to allow crews to clear snow, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s office announced Monday evening.

“I’m grateful to all our city teams who have been working around the clock through the storm to ensure the safety of our residents as we saw the largest storm in several years,” Wu said in the announcement.

Those with vehicles in discounted parking garages must remove their vehicle by 10 p.m. to avoid being charged full price, the mayor’s office said.

Residents with space savers must move them by 8 p.m. Wednesday or the Public Works Department will discard them, city officials said.

The use of space savers is always prohibited in the South End and Bay Village, Wu’s office said.

Trash and recycling services will be running on a Monday holiday schedule, while some neighborhoods will have a one-day delay in removal, the mayor’s office said.

Wu encouraged residents to call 911 for those experiencing homelessness or vulnerable people who have an increased risk due to the cold.
