A pair of Brighton roommates are facing drug trafficking charges for allegedly dealing meth out of their apartment, while Eastie brothers were recently busted with a half kilo of cocaine and several other narcotics near a school.
The two Brighton roommates — 43-year-old Vincenzo Porfino and 46-year-old William Nagle — both have criminal records dating back to the 1990s.
Boston Police launched a surveillance operation after receiving multiple community complaints of drug use and distribution from 227 Faneuil St., in Brighton.
Last Thursday, Boston drug control unit officers and a federal DEA task force conducted a search warrant operation at that address, where Porfino and Nagle live.
Officers found various narcotics and paraphernalia, including suboxone, Adderall, around 300 grams of crystal meth, and $3,591 in cash. Officers also found 98 counterfeit $100 bills.
“This is another great example of community members contacting police about what they see happening in their neighborhood and then police following up with a thorough investigation resulting in arrests and seizures of drugs, cash and counterfeit money,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said in a statement.
“These are the sort of community and law enforcement partnerships that improve the quality of life for all our residents,” Hayden added.
Porfino has had numerous convictions for firearms, domestic violence, drugs and larceny offenses dating back to 1995. Nagle has a criminal record dating back to 1997, including convictions for violent and drug offenses.
Porfino and Nagle were charged with trafficking methamphetamine of less than 100 grams and more than 200 grams respectively, and class B possession with intent to distribute.
The judge ordered them held without bail, pending a Tuesday dangerousness hearing.
Meanwhile in Eastie, brothers Julian Mongui Abril and Juan Mongui Abril are facing charges of drug possession and distribution after a monthslong surveillance operation by Boston Police.
Earlier this year, Boston Police received complaints about drug activity in the Greenway area near Maverick Square in East Boston.
After extensive surveillance and controlled undercover drug purchases, police identified 33-year-old Julian Moguil Abril as one of the main dealers, and obtained a search warrant for his 60 Lubec St. residence in Eastie.
Then last week, Drug Control Unit officers arrested Julian Mongui Abril on the first-floor landing of his Lubec Street apartment building.
Officers entered the home and also arrested 30-year-old Juan Mongui Abril.
Officers seized $11,000 in cash, a half kilo of cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, LSD, ketamine and MDMA from both of their bedrooms and the kitchen.
The brothers’ residence is located 199 feet from the boundary line of the Donald McKay Elementary School.
Julian was charged with trafficking cocaine over 200 grams, possession with intent to distribute Class A, two counts of possession with intent to distribute Class B, possession with intent to distribute Class C, possession with intent to distribute Class D, and drug violation near a school/park.
The judge ordered him held without bail pending a Tuesday dangerousness hearing.
Juan was charged with trafficking cocaine over 200 grams, possession with intent to distribute Class B, possession with intent to distribute Class D, and a drug violation near a school/park.
The judge set bail at $1,500 and ordered him to return to court Friday for a dangerousness hearing.
“This was a long and thorough investigation that began through communication from residents concerned about what they saw happening in their neighborhood,” Hayden said. “Quality of life is of utmost importance for all of our residents, and this episode is a good example of what can happen when residents share with law enforcement what they’re seeing on their streets and in their neighborhoods.”
