Thomas Drequan Perkins allegedly fired shots at a vehicle after getting into a verbal altercation with a man at a Beverly rest stop.
A Quincy man pleaded not guilty in Salem District Court on Tuesday to multiple firearm-related charges stemming from an alleged shooting on Route 128 North earlier this week, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker’s Office announced.
Thomas Drequan Perkins, 26, was arraigned on charges including two counts of armed assault with intent to murder with a firearm, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, discharging a firearm near a highway, and defacing property, according to the DA’s office.
Prosecutors allege that the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday, following a “verbal altercation” between Perkins and another man in the parking lot of the Beverly Service Plaza rest stop.
Investigators say the men returned to their vehicles, and Perkins allegedly followed the other car onto the highway and fired shots at it. A second person was inside the targeted vehicle at the time, Tucker’s office said.
Beverly police and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene. Investigators did not say whether the people in the targeted vehicle were struck or injured.
At the arraignment, a judge ordered Perkins to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing and prohibited him from having any contact with the two individuals in the other vehicle.
Perkins is due back in Salem District Court on Dec. 18 for a dangerousness hearing.
